Juneteenth celebration back in Anchorage

The Fairview Lions Park hosted Juneteenth in Anchorage Saturday.
The name and date recognize when slaves in Texas discovered they were free in June of 1865, a month after the Civil War ended and more than two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
Event organizer Jasmin Smith said she remembers attending Juneteenth in Anchorage as a child and happy it’s back now that she’s an adult.
