A recent study of Alaska’s seabirds found they are ingesting plastic that has found its way out to the oceans. Specifically, they are eating what is known as “microplastic.”
Veronica Padula, a graduate student of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, in collaboration with the University of Alaska Anchorage, says the research began as a way to understand why the populations of seabirds in the Bering Sea were declining.
