Gov. Walker declares Oct. 10 Indigenous Peoples Day

ANCHORAGE — While much of the nation observed Columbus Day on Monday, Alaska’s governor once again proclaimed Oct. 10 Indigenous Peoples Day.
Columbus Day, named for Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, is a federal holiday. In Alaska, it is not recognized as a state holiday, according to Katie Marquette, Gov. Bill Walker’s press secretary.
