East High JROTC respectfully retires weathered, worn flags

The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Thunderbird Battalion respectfully retired more than 50 flags at East Anchorage High School on Wednesday.
The flags, mostly starts and stripes, were collected over the past year. Each was worn, torn or ready for replacement.
The JROTC held a solemn ceremony and then each flag was laid into a burning barrel.
Cadets say the ritual is among the most respectful way to retire a flag.
