DOT: Traffic fatalities up across the state

ANCHORAGE — According to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT), the number of traffic fatalities in the state has risen dramatically since last year.
DOT spokeswoman Shannon McCarthy said traffic deaths are rising nationally — about 10 percent over last year. But in Alaska, the figure is about 34 percent.
“That’s unacceptable,” McCarthy said.
