DHSS confirms 38 newly diagnosed HIV cases in 2016

While the number of HIV cases are going down nationally, in Alaska, state health officials say they’re on the rise.
Wednesday, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) released its latest numbers.
In 2016, 38 newly diagnosed cases of HIV were confirmed.
“We’re not seeing a reduction in the number of cases. Each year we have between 20 and 50 new HIV cases reported,” DHSS HIV/STD program coordinator Susan Jones said.
