Citing finances, Walker halts work on Juneau road extension

Alaska Gov. Bill Walker says he’s halting work on a proposal to extend a road north of Juneau that was aimed at enhancing access to the state capital.
Walker says the state’s multi-billion dollar fiscal crisis means the road extension must give way to projects with a higher priority.
The governor in a prepared statement says he knows many will be disappointed with the decision.
Juneau is accessible only by water or air.
