Care continues for orphaned walrus calf in Seward

For Shelby Burman, snuggling a baby walrus might be the best summer job, ever.
“This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to work with these guys up close and personal– which has been really amazing, especially such a young calf. For mammal trainer goals, this is pretty high up there,” Burman said.
She’s one of about a dozen staffers at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward caring for an orphaned walrus that washed up on a mining vessel outside Nome in mid-June.
