Alaska House pulls per diem cuts off the table days after proposal made

Lawmakers last week proposed a 75-percent cut to their own per diem, but by Monday afternoon, the proposal was taken off the table in a House Finance Committee meeting.
Rep. Paul Seaton, R-Homer, committee co-chair, pulled the proposed amendment from consideration. Not one committee member, Republican or Democrat, objected.
Seaton cited Alaska law, which states that the Legislative Council, the Legislature’s own governing body, should set per diem policy.
