With split roll defeated, time for pension reform

California voters delivered a victory for common sense this Nov. 3 in rejecting Proposition 15. The measure, which would have created a “split roll” property tax system by which certain commercial and industrial properties would be subject to significantly higher taxation, was the wrong idea at the wrong time.
The measure, primarily pushed by government unions and left-wing advocacy groups, draped itself in the innocuous banner of “Schools and Communities First.”
