Why can this 95-year-old driver get his license renewed until he’s 100?

Q. A friend of my mother just turned 95. He just got his license renewed for five years! He passed the eye exam, but did not have to take a driving test. It seems insane the Department of Motor Vehicles is letting him drive until he is 100 without taking another test. He has totaled two cars. He lives in Los Angeles County and he told my mother he knows which DMV to go to. Aren’t the rules the same at every DMV? What are the rules for older people? It is scary to think there are older
