ARCADIA — The sixth-grade teacher in Altadena asked the boys and girls to write down their goals in life.
“I want to win the Kentucky Derby by the time I’m 30,” young Richard Mandella responded.
On Friday, Mandella, 68, sat behind his desk in Barn 4 at Santa Anita and laughed.
“I’ve already lapped that,” he said, “and working on another lap.”
