Baseball is no longer the national game because the nation’s best athletes aren’t playing it.
Willie Mays learned it because his father Carl played in the Birmingham Industrial League. When Willie was in high school, he signed with the Black Barons of the Negro American League.
Hank Aaron played in the streets in his Mobile neighborhood. His high school didn’t have baseball, so he played for the Mobile Black Bears, and later signed with the Indianapolis Clowns.
