LOS ANGELES >> USC freshman quarter-miler Michael Norman was savoring an afternoon he had been looking forward to for more than a year when Trojans coach Caryl Smith Gilbert decided to pour cold water on it.
“Make sure you get an ice bath,” Smith Gilbert instructed Norman a half-hour after the USC-UCLA dual meet at Loker Stadium on Sunday. “Ice, ice.”
