Unpredictable primary results in 74th Assembly District race

The only Orange County state seat now held by a Democrat that’s likely to see a competitive primary on Super Tuesday is the 74th Assembly District, which stretches along the coast from Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach and includes most of Irvine.
Voter registration in the district favors the GOP by 2 percentage points, and that could make freshman Democratic Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris vulnerable. In 2018, she flipped the seat, in a surprise win over incumbent Matthew Harper. And th
