Thrill rides and stone lifting elevate San Clemente’s 2017 fall carnival

Stone lifting, a sport said to date back to 1,500 BC in Northern Europe, is gaining a foothold in Orange County.
It’s not the kind of activity you normally expect to see in a place such as San Clemente’s Vista Hermosa Sports Park – men lifting a 250-pound stone over their head as many times as they can, women lifting a 2,000-pound car.
