The ancient charms of Lyon

Fourviere sits on ‘the hill that prays,’ overlooking the City of Lyon. It takes its name from the Forum Vitae built by the Romans who settled there beginning in 43 B.C. They left their mark at the peak where, millennia later, an amphitheater is still used for live events. Its neighbor is the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, visible from most points in the city, a symbol of Lyon. And while the Basilica is not nearly as old as its Roman neighbor, it is just as arresting.
