Surfer who died in water at Upper Trestles is identified

A man found floating in the water at Upper Trestles just south of San Clemente was identified as Ellis John Manugo Pontillas, according to the San Diego Department of the Medical Examiner.
The report said the death occurred at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Trestles Beach trail, which is within San Diego County limits on State Parks land. Though no city of residence was given, he was identified as a 53-year-old male who resides in Orange County.
