State considering plan to extend eviction ban through January
State leaders released a new eviction moratorium Friday, Aug. 28, that would protect tenants with COVID-related financial hardships from getting thrown out of their homes though January for not paying rent.
The measure — the product of more than a week of negotiations between moratorium supporters, landlord groups and the governor’s office — also will require tenants to pay at least a fourth of their rent starting in September.
