Spence survives Porter to win a split decision in a Staples classic
LOS ANGELES — Two welterweight champions entered the Staples Center ring Saturday night and walked out with even more stature.
But only one got to keep both the IBF and WBC belts.
Errol Spence Jr. braved his toughest professional fight, knocked down Shawn Porter in the 11th round, and won a split decision. Spence won 116-111 on two cards and lost 115-112 on the other, although it was difficult to see that much space between the two, on the cards or anywhere else.
