Small plane slides off runway at JWA, delaying flights

SANTA ANA – A small plane slid off a runway while landing at John Wayne Airport on Thursday afternoon, temporarily delaying commercial flights.
The single-engine Piper Malibu, shortly before 1 p.m., skidded off of a runway, shearing off the nose gear of the aircraft and coming to rest in a “safety area” between the short runway and a long runway used for commercial aircraft, said Deanne Thompson, a John Wayne Airport spokeswoman.
