Short start continues a troubling trend for Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda
LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers made Kenta Maeda a full-time relief pitcher in August of last year. Pitching in high-leverage relief situations down the stretch, Maeda’s earned-run average fell. His strikeout rate rose. By the National League Championship Series, he was the team’s top right-handed set-up man.
Now, Maeda’s declining performance – as well as the emergence of other starting pitchers – is threatening to relegate him to a relief role again.
