Republicans shoot themselves in the foot with utopian purity tests
One of my favorite virtues of conservatism is the rejection of utopian ideas, especially ones put forth by the government. Conservatives have a realistic approach to policy making and quickly pan arbitrary and unfunded ideas.
This practical worldview — some might say downer (we’ll take it!) — has been around a long time. Founding Father Samuel Huntington wrote many years ago that “No political philosopher has ever described a conservative utopia.”
