Rent control measure 2.0 just as misguided as the last one
In 2018, California voters overwhelmingly rejected Proposition 10, a ballot measure to expand rent control in the state.
Specifically, Prop. 10 sought to repeal the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act, a state law limiting rent control.
Under Costa-Hawkins, rent control can’t apply to single-family homes or homes completed on or after Feb. 1, 1995. Additionally, rent control laws can’t dictate what landlords charge new renters.
