Rams make their first cuts; it gets harder Saturday

THOUSAND OAKS — The Rams released 18 players Friday, leaving 19 deeper cuts to be made before Saturday’s deadline to reduce their roster to 53.
The moves touched off a weekend that will see NFL players confirm spots on active rosters and practice squads and start focusing on next weekend’s season openers.
For the Rams, who begin their NFC championship defense Sunday, Sept. 8 at Carolina, none of the first round of cuts was surprising, but some of the names were familiar: Brando
