Project should hasten Metrolink and Amtrak trips through south Orange County

In about two years, thousands of Metrolink and Amtrak riders could spend less time every day sitting idly by near the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo station.
The Orange County Transportation Authority has started building a 1.8-mile passing track from the train station to San Juan Capistrano, just north of Trabuco Creek. The $34 million project along the county’s north-south rail corridor is expected to finish by the spring of 2021.
