Possible water main break causes sinkhole in Costa Mesa, interrupts water service

COSTA MESA — A possible water main break Tuesday night left a street flooded, caused a sinkhole and left residents without water for nearly five hours, authorities said.
Costa Mesa police responded to flooding in the area of Costa Mesa Street and Orange Avenue about 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 29, Lt. Greg Scott said.
When officers arrived, there was a large amount of water in the street, which caused a 6- by 12-foot sinkhole, Scott said.
