Orange County deputies’ union takes a stand against transparency

Across California, police unions have sought to block the release of law-enforcement records pertaining to uses-of-force and serious officer misconduct prior to Jan. 1, 2019.
At issue is Senate Bill 1421, which was approved by the Legislature with bipartisan support last year and signed into law by then-Gov. Jerry Brown. The law gives the public access to records pertaining to police shootings and uses-of-force by officers resulting in death or great bodily injury.
