One dead in 405 freeway crash in Irvine

At least one person died early Friday morning, July 14, on the southbound 405 freeway in Irvine after an SUV crashed into a tree, authorities said.
The 3:08 a.m. collision happened on the Irvine Center off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car also caught fire after the crash.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The number 3, 4 and 5 lanes on the southbound side were closed shortly after the crash. They re-opened after the scene was cleared at around 7:15 a.m.
