Moderate earthquake rattles coast
AVALON >> A magnitude-3.9 earthquake that struck in the Pacific Ocean, nearly 30 miles southwest of Santa Catalina Island, rattled the coast early today.
The quake was reported just after midnight, about 48 miles south-southwest of Rancho Palos Verdes, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Authorities at the sheriff’s Avalon Station said it was “a bit of a shaker,” but no injuries or damage were reported.
The quake was 2.4 miles in depth, according to the USGS.
