Long Beach approves modular housing purchase for homeless center

A spending plan of just more than $5 million has been approved to create the first phase of the Atlantic Avenue Bridge Community — a year-round homeless shelter and service center in north Long Beach.
In February this year, the City Council approved purchase of property at 6841-6845 Atlantic Ave. to build the shelter, paying $9.6 million. Preliminary plans call for a 125-bed shelter/transitional housing along with space for supportive services.
The contract is with Williams Scotsman, Inc.
