Live-shooter training at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach prepares sailors for potential real-life scenario

Capt. Jason Sherman, commanding officer of Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, was the first of four “hostages” carried out on a gurney by security and firefighters Tuesday, Feb. 4, during a live-shooter drill at the base.
It was the conclusion of a scenario involving an armed suspect that had entered the base’s command headquarters and barricaded himself with the hostages. After negotiations failed, base security stormed the building and confronted and shot the man.
