Letters: A health care plan we can’t afford

I’m sick at heart and furious at the same time after reading that California’s senators voted 23-14 to pass a single-payer health plan — in spite of the fact that they don’t have the $400 billion to fund it.
We just got hit with a higher gas tax and vehicle license fee. Now they’re talking about more taxes to fund the destruction of our health care system?!
We can’t afford a 15 percent increase in the payroll tax — or whatever else they’ll dream up
