Let’s flush the culture wars

Americans were the first to condense milk, construct suspension bridges, invent light bulbs, split the atom, cure polio, put men on the moon, create the internet and — not to be too earthy — perfect the flush toilet. We’re creative people who’ve always been problem solvers. Franklin D. Roosevelt liked to call this trait “American know-how.”
Usually, FDR was alluding to the advanced weaponry that helped this country win World War II, not sanitation, but these t
