Joseph Diaz Jr., lesson learned, fights for title again
It was less than three months ago that Joseph Diaz Jr. of South El Monte stepped into the ring to challenge Gary Russell Jr. for his featherweight world title.
About an hour later, Diaz was dealing with his first loss as a pro.
“Yes, I was very disappointed,” Diaz said of the May 19 fight in Oxon Hill, Md.
Diaz, 25, will get another shot at becoming a world champion Saturday when he challenges Jesus Rojas of Puerto Rico for his featherweight belt at The Avalon in Hollywood. Gold
