John McCain was a ‘maverick’ and a patriot

John McCain was just 31 years old when his A-4E Skyhawk was shot down over Hanoi. If that had been the end, he already would have lived a remarkable life.
McCain was born in 1936 at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone. His father, John S. McCain Jr., and his grandfather, John “Slew” McCain served in the Navy and were the first father and son to become four-star admirals.
The service was never far from the young McCain as he travelled with his father from duty station
