Jaelan Phillips leaving UCLA football program

UCLA outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips had medically retired from football, a school spokesperson confirmed Saturday.
The sophomore from Redlands East Valley High struggled with concussions during his brief UCLA career and also suffered a severe wrist injury in January from an off-campus scooter accident in which he was hit by a car.
Phillips came to UCLA as the top recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports composite rankings, a major recruiting coup for then-head coach Jim Mora.
