Irvine softball players have some fun before getting down to business

Irvine Girls Softball Association players are serious about their playing, but they know how to have some fun on the field as well.
The league draws its team names from colleges, so for the annual opening day ceremony on Friday, the teams paraded in wearing elephant ears (Cal State Fullerton), alligator hats (University of Florida) and cowboy hats (Texas Tech).
The league has divisions for players ages 7 through 14. Games for the spring season started on Saturday.
