Ilya Kovalchuk leaves Kings, is placed on waivers

The Ilya Kovalchuk saga has come to a close, although the Kings will continue to deal with its ramifications through the end of the 2020-21 season.
The veteran forward left the team and was placed on unconditional waivers on Monday after a mutually disappointing 81-game stint with the last-place club. The Kings made the move “for the purpose of terminating his contract with the club,” they said in a statement.
The 36-year-old Russian wing had three goals and six assists in 17 games u
