If they ain’t broke, stop trying to fix them

I spent a week with my mother over the holidays. Seven full days in a small apartment in New York. It rained. A lot. This had all the makings of an Edward Albee play but was actually quite pleasant.
For me.
My mother is 87. Her health, overall, is good. She lives independently with my 88-year-old stepfather. In the grand scheme of things, they’re both doing well. Still, she’s 87, he’s 88, and they have issues. Being the superb son I am, I was eager to help in any way I could.
