How Mike Smith and Bob Baffert could surprise at the Preakness
Some observers might have been surprised when Mike Smith landed on 5-2 morning-line favorite Improbable for Saturday’s 144th running of the Preakness Stakes.
They probably surmised that since Smith took off one of Baffert’s Kentucky Derby contenders, Roadster, in favor of the Richard Mandella-trained Omaha Beach in the Run for the Roses, that Baffert would hold a grudge and look in another direction when choosing a rider for his lone Preakness horse.
