House speaker job up for grabs this election

It’s a hot summer on Capitol Hill as the date of House Speaker Paul Ryan’s surrender of the gavel, and with it the second-most powerful job in the U.S. government, draws closer.
The voters will decide in November which party controls Congress when it reconvenes in January, and then Ryan’s successor will be decided by a vote of the members of the House. But the new speaker’s identity as well as party is still very much up in the air.
