Gravitational-wave research at CSUF to expand with $10 million gift
When physicists Joshua Smith, Geoffrey Lovelace and Jocelyn Read were hired at Cal State Fullerton, gravitational waves had not yet been detected.
That gave the three professors time to create the Center for Gravitational-Wave Physics and Astronomy to research the new science. The center opened in 2012, and when the first gravitational wave was detected three years later from merging black holes, and announced in 2016, the center had played a key role in the discovery.
