Galaxy eliminated from U.S. Open Cup with loss to Portland

The Galaxy’s short stay in the U.S. Open Cup came to an end Friday night.
Thanks to a Sebastian Blanco first-half goal, the Portland Timbers held off the Galaxy 1-0 in a round of 16 game at Providence Park.
The Timbers will face the winner of Wednesday’s LAFC-Sacramento Republic game in the quarterfinals.
MLS clubs entered the Open Cup in the fourth round. The Galaxy defeated amateur club FC Golden State Force 3-1 on June 6 to advance to Friday’s round of 16 match.
