Daxon: Is Brea ready to be split into districts?

The Brea Olinda Unified School District recently received a demand letter from a Malibu-based attorney saying it needs to forego at-large elections to conform to the California Voting Rights Act.
The school board discussed the challenge at its May 6 meeting.
The California Voting Rights Act prohibits at-large elections in a political subdivision if doing so would impair the ability of a protected or minority class to elect candidates of its choice or otherwise influence the election outcome.
