Daxon: Brea Museum & Historical Society participating in look at sundown towns, segregation issues

During the recent discussion around the renaming of William Fanning Elementary School, we heard Brea was once referred to as a sundown town.
Sundown towns usually restricted residency to Caucasians. Minorities, especially people of color, were barred from purchasing property due to racially restrictive covenants and redlining. Banks and mortgage lenders drew red lines on maps around areas they would not fund mortgages for certain demographics, especially Blacks. That was redlining.
