Darren McCaughan, Long Beach State blank UC Irvine

IRVINE – To say Long Beach State and UC Irvine are baseball teams headed in different directions, would be a massive understatement.
Long Beach entered its game against the Anteaters on Friday night ranked No. 12 in the country and in second place in the Big West Conference, percentage points behind Cal State Fullerton. Irvine had lost 15 of 18, and was in seventh place with a team ERA of 6.15.
