Curt Onalfo out as Galaxy coach; Sigi Schmid returns

The Galaxy is turning back to a familiar face to right an unsteady ship.
The club fired current coach Curt Onalfo Thursday and hired Sigi Schmid, 64, as the club heads toward the final stretch of the Major League Soccer season.
Schmid coached the Galaxy from 1999-2004. He led the franchise to its first MLS Cup in 2002. He’s is a South Bay resident, having grown up in Torrance and coached at UCLA.
