Current public sector practices are unsustainable

Sooner or later, a reckoning over public employment practices will confront public officials and the people who elect them. The longer compromise is delayed, the harsher the outcome for public employees and the public.
Ultimately, the issue is the power wielded by public-sector unions. Pay is generally better for workers than for the same jobs in the private sector. Benefits and job protections are much more generous. But eventually, public-sector unions could be the victims of their own success
