Costa Mesa police gets first K-9 on patrol since 2011

Bodi is the newest and shortest officer in the Costa Mesa Police Department, but he has other assets: he’s observant, runs fast and has a keen sense of smell.
The 3-year-old brindle Dutch Shepherd and his handler, Officer Nick Dempkowski, were introduced to the community this month along with Officer Candyce McMorris, who will train this spring to become the department’s first woman K-9 handler.
Costa Mesa police worked with service dogs from 1988 until 2011, when budget cuts led the
